Updated July 2026 · v1.5.4

Screenshots

TaskCafe is a fast, native macOS kanban board for organizing work - columns, cards, due dates, checklists, comments and tags, all offline and instant.

Boards live in the sidebar; each opens a canvas of columns you fill with cards. Smart lists gather cards by due date across every board, so "what's due today" is always one click away - no account, no sync, no waiting.

Highlights

  1. Boards and columns - group work into boards, each with its own accent colour and 2-character badge; drag headers to reorder columns, drag rows to reorder boards.
  2. Rich cards - title, description, due date, checklist, comments and colour tags all on one card; checklists and comments save the moment you type them.
  3. Smart lists - All, Today, Upcoming and Overdue auto-collect cards by due date across every board, with live counts in the sidebar.
  4. Due dates that read like English - chips show "Today", "Tomorrow", "in 3 days" or a calendar date, and turn amber when soon, red when overdue.
  5. WIP limits - cap cards per column to keep flow honest; a column over its limit flags red.
  6. Colour tags - reusable across cards, with type-ahead suggestions; click a tag in the sidebar to see every card carrying it.
  7. Drag and drop - reorder cards, move them between columns, reorder columns and boards; grab the blank canvas to pan a wide board.
  8. Keyboard-driven - arrow keys move a card between columns and rows, Enter opens the editor, ⌘↵ saves.
  9. Search everything - one box matches title, notes, tags, due date, column and board, with the matched text highlighted.
  10. Light, dark and system - a macOS-native look that follows the system appearance live, with no flash on launch.

How it works

Pick or create a board in the sidebar, add a few columns, then add cards. Click any card to open its editor and set a due date, tick off checklist items, drop a comment or attach tags - checklist and comment changes persist instantly, the rest on Save. Drag cards across columns as work moves, or use the arrow keys. The Today and Overdue smart lists pull due cards from every board into one place.

Perfect for

  1. Personal planning - a board for life, a board for side projects, and a Today list that spans both.
  2. Solo devs and makers - a lightweight roadmap and bug board without a SaaS subscription or a browser tab.
  3. Privacy-minded users - local-only storage, no account, nothing leaves your Mac.
  4. Anyone who wants speed - a native app that opens instantly and is driven entirely from the keyboard.
