Pixpresso

Pixpresso is an image viewer and editor for the everyday jobs that do not deserve a heavy photo suite: cropping a screenshot, straightening a phone photo, marking up an image for a teammate, or shrinking a picture before you send it. Open one image and every other image in that folder lines up in a sidebar, so it works as a viewer as well as a one-shot editor.

It is free, it needs no account, and your pictures are never uploaded anywhere - even reading the text in an image happens on your own computer.

Highlights

• Folder browsing - a thumbnail sidebar of every image in the folder, sorted by name, date or size, with inline rename and a right-click menu to duplicate a file or move it to the trash.
• Copy text from images - select every word in a picture, or drag across just the part you need, then copy it like ordinary text.
• Crop - drag a frame or type the exact position and size; keep it free or lock it to 1:1, 3:2, 4:3, 16:9 or their portrait versions.
• Resize - type a width and height with the ratio locked, and see the real output size before you save.
• Rotate and flip - turn a sideways photo upright or mirror it, then save it back over the file.
• Annotate - rectangles, ellipses, lines, arrows, free drawing and text in any colour, fill and stroke; drop in emoji stickers or your own logo with an opacity slider for a watermark; group, duplicate and layer shapes, with undo and redo.
• Filters - brightness, contrast, saturation and blur sliders, plus 9 preset looks (Sepia, Vintage, Polaroid, Kodachrome and more), each with its own intensity slider.
• Export a copy - JPEG, PNG, WebP or TIFF, with a quality slider for JPEG and PNG.
• Print what you see - the printed page carries your crop, annotations and filters, not the untouched file.
• Revert to the original - go back to the version before your first save this session, even after several saves.
• Opens the way you already work - use the Open command, drop a file or a whole folder onto the window, or right-click an image and choose Open With -> Pixpresso.

How it works

Open an image and Pixpresso shows it with every other image from the same folder in the sidebar; the up and down arrow keys step through them. The toolbar switches between View, Crop, Resize, Annotate and Filter, and each mode puts its controls in the panel on the right. In View, the words in the picture can be selected and copied.

Make a change, then Save to write it back to the file, or Export to keep the original and write a copy in another format. If a save turns out to be a mistake, Reset brings the file back to how it was before your first save in this session.
