GomokuCafe is five-in-a-row the way it should feel on a Mac: a real wooden board, stones that land with a knock, and an opponent that actually thinks. Pick a difficulty, click an intersection, and the game is on.
Everything runs on your Mac. No account to open a game, no server to wait for, no ads between moves - the whole engine ships inside the app and works on a plane.
Highlights
- Five difficulty levels that really are different - Rookie is greedy and misses blocks the way a beginner does; Master searches deep and proves forced wins before it commits. Each level was measured against the one below it over twenty-four games, and every rung wins its series.
- A 2D board and a 3D board, one click apart - the flat view is quick and precise; the 3D view is a real wooden slab you can orbit, zoom and tilt, with glossy stones that drop, bounce and cast shadows.
- Two players on one Mac - hand the keyboard back and forth in hot-seat mode, with the same board, the same undo and the same move list.
- Take back as many moves as you like - one Undo returns your move and the computer's reply together, or click any move in the strip to rewind the whole game to that point and try a different line.
- Ask for a hint when you are stuck - the strongest level suggests a move and marks it on the board, so a hard position becomes a lesson instead of a loss.
- Four board sizes - the standard 15x15, a 19x19 to open out on, or 21x21 and 25x25 when you want room to manoeuvre.
- Your record, kept quietly - wins, draws and losses are tallied per difficulty so you can see the moment level 3 stops being a challenge.
- Light and dark, and it sounds right - the board, the stones and the whole window follow your theme, and every stone lands with a soft wooden knock you can switch off.

How it works
Open the app and a 19x19 board is already waiting, with the computer set to level 3 and you playing black. Click any intersection to place a stone; the computer answers in about a second. The first player to line up five stones in any direction wins, and the winning row lights up on the board.
Want it harder or easier? Pick a different level in the sidebar at any time - it applies from the very next move. Want to play a friend instead? Switch the opponent to 2 Players and pass the Mac back and forth. Want to see the board in three dimensions? Flip the view to 3D and drag to look around it.
