DockerCats

A tiny 3D cat that naps on your Dock and follows you

Updated August 2026 · v1.5.5

Screenshots

DockerCats puts a little 3D cat on top of your Dock. It walks up and down, sits, stretches, washes a paw, curls up for a nap, and every so often looks up and meows at you. When you switch to another app, it pads across the screen to come and see what you are doing.

That is the whole app. It is not a reminder, it is not a tracker, and it will never ask you to do anything. It just lives down there and keeps you company while you work.

Highlights

  1. It follows you around - switch to your browser and the cat wanders over to the browser. Switch to your editor and it comes back. Turn it off and it will happily wander on its own instead.
  2. It never gets in the way - the cat is completely click-through. Every click, scroll and drag passes straight through it to whatever is underneath, so you can forget it is there.
  3. Ten cats to choose from - Orange Tabby, Tuxedo, Calico, Grey Tabby, Snow White, Midnight, Siamese, Ginger, Russian Blue and Tortoiseshell, each properly modelled with its own markings. Pick one in Settings and watch it change while you decide.
  4. Real cat behaviour - sitting, stretching, washing a paw, sleeping, an irritated tail flick, a hopeless attempt at catching its own tail, and the occasional headbutt. You choose how busy it is, from calm to hyper.
  5. It talks a bit - small speech bubbles and a soft meow when it has something to say. Log in first thing in the morning and it will tell you it missed you. Both the bubbles and the sound can be switched off.
  6. No Dock icon, no clutter - DockerCats stays out of your Dock and out of the app switcher entirely. It lives in the menu bar as a small cat, and that is where you find Settings and Quit.
  7. It knows where your Dock is - big Dock, small Dock, Dock on the left or the right, a second monitor, a resolution change. The cat finds the right ledge and stays on it.
  8. There when you log in - turn on Launch at login and the cat is already waiting for you, with a hello, every time you start your Mac.
DockerCats

How it works

Open DockerCats and a cat appears on the ledge above your Dock. There is nothing to set up and nothing to sign up for. A small cat appears in your menu bar, and everything lives there: show or hide the cat, open Settings, or quit.

In Settings you pick a colour and watch a live 3D preview of that exact cat, set how big it is and how lively you want it, and decide whether it should follow the app you are using, speak, and meow. Everything applies straight away - the cat never resets or jumps back to the middle while you are adjusting it.

Perfect for

  1. Anyone who works alone and would like something warm on screen
  2. People who love cats but cannot keep one where they live
  3. Long days at the desk that could use a small, undemanding distraction
  4. Anyone who likes their desktop to feel a little more like their own
