TypePress is a Typing Master-style touch-typing tutor for macOS that takes you from finding the home row to fast, accurate ten-finger typing.
Guided lessons teach every key with a live hand guide, Speed Test and per-key statistics show exactly what to work on, and ten typing games keep the practice fun.
Highlights
- Guided lessons - 37 lessons across 7 units, from the home row to numbers and punctuation, each building only on the keys you have already learned.
- Live hand guide - a colour-coded on-screen keyboard and a pair of hands show which finger hits the next key, so you never look down.
- Speed Test - timed runs measure your net WPM and accuracy, with a pace graph and the exact keys to work on this run.
- Deep statistics - a keyboard heatmap for accuracy or speed per key, WPM and accuracy trends, a practice calendar with streaks, and a daily goal.
- Ten typing games - Falling Words, Key Defender, Ghost Race, Boss Battle, Space Shooter and more turn drills into arcade fun, each with its own background music and saved high scores.
- Custom Text - paste any text, an article or some code, and practice on exactly what you want with the same live WPM and accuracy.
- Light and dark - a clean, macOS-native interface that follows your system theme or switches on demand.
- Local-first and private - every lesson, test and key stat is stored on your Mac; nothing leaves your machine.
How it works
Open TypePress and start with the first lesson. The app shows the next key on an on-screen keyboard and lights up the finger to press it with, so you learn correct technique from the very first keystroke. Work through the units at your own pace, run a Speed Test whenever you want a benchmark, then open Statistics to see which keys and finger transitions are holding you back.
When you want a break from drills, jump into Games and keep practising without noticing. Your progress, test history and per-key statistics live locally in ~/Library/Application Support/, so your data stays yours and works fully offline.
Perfect for
- Beginners - learn proper ten-finger technique from scratch, one key at a time.
- Breaking bad habits - trade hunt-and-peck for muscle memory with guided drills and a live hand guide.
- Speed chasers - benchmark your WPM and accuracy and watch the trend climb test after test.
- Coders and writers - drill the letters, numbers and symbols you actually use by practising on your own text.
- Casual practice - keep your typing sharp with quick games between tasks.
