MoneyCoffee is a personal finance tracker that keeps a month's spending on your own Mac - brought in from your statement, your bank messages or a photo of a receipt, and filed against categories that learn your own words for things.

Everything stays on your own machine. No account to make, nothing to sync, no bank to connect, and nothing about your money is uploaded anywhere.

Highlights

  1. Categories that learn your words - give a category the keywords you actually see on your statement, and every import after that files them for you.
  2. Reads the way people write - paste a line like "1.2tr rent yesterday" or "-45.000 GRAB *RIDE HCM" and it works out the amount, the day, who you paid and where it belongs. Short amounts, "yesterday", "1 Aug", a weekday name - all of it lands, and a minus sign in front means money out, the way your statement writes it.
  3. Budgets that warn you in time - a cap per category or one overall, weekly to yearly, with optional rollover and a nudge before you blow through it.
  4. Recurring bills on autopilot - rent, salary and subscriptions post themselves, or wait in a tray for one tap when the amount moves.
  5. Reports you can actually read - spending pace, a ranked breakdown of where it went, twelve months side by side, and a table view of every figure.
  6. A month that starts on your payday - set the month to begin on any day from the 1st to the 31st, and every screen, chart and monthly budget follows it. A month too short for the day uses its last one, the way a bank handles a payday on the 31st.
  7. Three ways in - the statement your bank lets you download, a pasted block of bank messages, or a photo of a receipt. A receipt comes in as the one amount you actually paid, dated from the paper and named after the shop. Bringing the same statement in twice changes nothing.
  8. Goals and debts - savings goals projected from how fast you are actually saving, and loans in both directions that settle straight into your balance.
  9. Private, and stays that way - a receipt is read on your Mac itself, so the photo never goes anywhere. Nothing here signs you up for an account, and you can export the lot or take a backup in one click.

How it works

Add the accounts you spend from - cash, bank, e-wallet, card - and MoneyCoffee starts with a sensible set of categories. From then on it is mostly import and review: drop in a statement, paste a block of bank messages, or photograph a receipt, and check the rows before they land. Transfers between your own accounts stay out of your spending totals, so moving money never looks like losing it.

Set the currency you think in and a month that starts on your payday, and every report, budget and chart follows it. Change the currency later and it simply renames what you have already recorded instead of converting it, so last month's report never moves under you.

Perfect for

  1. Anyone who has abandoned a budgeting app - because logging things took longer than it was worth.
  2. People paid monthly on a date that is not the 1st - set the month to start on payday and the numbers finally line up with real life.
  3. Anyone who lends and borrows among friends - debts run in both directions, and recording a repayment writes the matching transaction, so the balance and the debt can never disagree.
  4. People who will not connect a bank account to an app - nothing here talks to your bank, or to anyone.
