CremaCard

CremaCard is a flashcard app that decides what you should see today. You grade each card on how well you knew it, and the scheduler pushes it further out every time you get it right, so the things you already know stop taking up your morning.

Everything lives on your own computer. There is no account, no sync server, and nothing about your cards ever leaves the machine.

Highlights

1. A review takes two seconds - space bar to reveal the answer, then 1 to 4 to grade it. Every button tells you what it will do before you press it: 10 minutes, 4 days, 2.3 months. You can study a whole session without touching the mouse.
2. Bring your Anki collection with you - open an .apkg and your decks, subdecks, tags and suspended cards come across, along with the interval and ease of every card you have already been studying. Cloze deletions become real cards, hiding the right blank. Old packages and the newest compressed ones both work.
3. It tells you what it skipped - an import that meets something it cannot carry across, like an image or an unusual card layout, says so and counts it. One odd card never costs you the other nine thousand.
4. Full of cards on day one - 1,093 of them, ready to study: core English vocabulary and phrasal verbs with their definitions, Spanish sentences with English translations, every world capital, and the whole periodic table. Each deck shows where it came from and under which licence.
5. See whether it is working - a study calendar going back half a year, your current and best streak, how often you actually remember, what is coming over the next month, and how far each deck has got from new to mature.
6. Your cards can leave - export any deck, or the whole collection, as CSV or TSV. The file carries the scheduling as well as the text, so importing it back gives you the collection you had rather than a reset one.
7. Decks that nest - put Verbs inside Spanish inside Languages. Studying a parent studies everything under it, and its counts add up the whole branch.
8. Tune the scheduler or leave it alone - the defaults are the ones most people use. If you want different learning steps, a gentler ease, a cap on how far out a card can go or a different hour for the day to roll over, they are all there.
9. A real desktop app - proper menus, full light and dark appearance, and cards stored in one file you can copy and back up yourself.

How it works

Open CremaCard and it already has decks in it. Pick one, press Study, and answer cards: see the front, press space, then say whether it was Again, Hard, Good or Easy. A card you found easy comes back in months. A card you got wrong comes back in ten minutes.

Add your own cards with Cmd-N, or import what you already have. Come back tomorrow and the app has worked out which cards are worth your time that day.
