TinyImage

TinyImage makes PNG, JPEG and WebP files smaller without changing how they look. Drop a screenshot, a photo, or a whole folder of them onto the window, and a compressed copy of each lands beside the original a moment later.

No account, no upload, no queue on somebody else's server. Every image is decoded and re-encoded on your own machine, your originals are never touched, and the app is free.

Highlights

1. Drop and it starts - the whole window is the drop target, and compression begins the moment files land. There is no confirm step to click through.
2. Your originals stay exactly as they were - the compressed file is written next to the original with a suffix you choose (photo-min.jpg by default). Nothing is ever overwritten, and a name that is already taken gets numbered instead of replaced.
3. Same pixels, same format - a 4000 x 3000 photo comes out 4000 x 3000, and a PNG comes out a PNG. No silent resizing, no surprise conversion to a format the rest of your workflow cannot open.
4. Three levels of squeeze - Smaller, Balanced or Best. One control, tuned per format behind the scenes, instead of a wall of encoder settings you would have to learn.
5. Never bigger than what you started with - already-optimised files and tiny icons sometimes grow when re-encoded. When that happens TinyImage keeps the original bytes and tells you, so a "compressed" file is never the larger one.
6. Colours survive, clutter does not - the colour profile is carried across, so wide-gamut photos do not shift on the way through. Camera EXIF and XMP are dropped once rotation has been baked into the image: fewer bytes, and no location data riding along with a picture you are about to post.
7. Built for whole folders - drop two hundred images and they compress several at a time with a live progress bar. Stop mid-run and pick the rest up later without redoing the finished ones.
8. You can see what you saved - every row shows the before size, the after size and the percentage; the bar along the bottom adds up the whole batch. Show in Finder opens the folder the copies went to.
9. Straight into Pixpresso - if you want to crop or retouch a compressed file, hand it to Pixpresso from the row it is on rather than hunting for it on disk.

How it works

Open the app and you get one panel: drop images on it, or click it to pick files. Each file appears as a row with a thumbnail and its size, and compression starts on its own. When a row finishes it shows how much it lost, and the copy is already sitting in the same folder as the original.

Settings live under the drop zone and stay put between launches: the compression level, and the suffix used for the copies. Everything runs locally, so the app works the same on a plane as it does on your desk, and the TinyImage menu has a Check for Updates item for when a newer build is out.
