BrewReader is a calm, distraction-free EPUB reader for the desktop - a tidy library and a highly customizable reading view for people who like to read slowly.
Your books live on shelves in the sidebar; opening one drops you into a full-screen reader with the table of contents on the left and the page in the middle.
Highlights
- EPUB library - import with a click or by dragging files onto the window; covers, title and author are pulled in automatically.
- Grid & list views - switch layouts, search by title or author, and sort by recently added, last opened, title or author.
- Shelves - create and rename your own shelves; each book lives on one shelf, added through a searchable picker.
- Favorites & Recent - star the books you love; a Recent list tracks what you've opened (removing from Recent never deletes the book).
- Library-wide bookmarks - save any spot, labelled by its table-of-contents entry, and jump straight back to the exact page.
- Customizable reader - three themes (Paper, Sepia, Night), adjustable font, size, line height and margin, plus one- or two-page layout and full screen.
- Smart contents - a per-page Contents sidebar, and clicking a link in the book's own table of contents jumps to the right chapter.
- Auto-saved progress - your place is remembered and resumed on reopen, with a reading-progress bar on every book; titles move from Unread to Reading to Finished on their own as you go.
How it works
Drag an .epub onto the window (or click Import books) and it appears in your library with its real cover. Click a book to open the reader: turn pages with ← → or the Prev / Next buttons, tune the look with the Aa button, and save your spot with the bookmark button.
Everything - books, covers, reading progress and bookmarks - is stored locally on your machine at ~/Library/Application Support/cafe.getapps.brewreader/. No account or internet connection is needed to read.
Perfect for
- Reading the classics - public-domain EPUBs from epubBooks, Project Gutenberg and friends.
- Minimalists - a warm, focused interface built for reading slowly, without clutter.
- Organizing a collection - sort books onto shelves, star favorites and track what you've read.
- Reading several books at once - Recent and bookmarks bring you back to the right place in each one.
