FrameArabica

Turn any photo folder into a picture frame on your desktop

Updated August 2026 · v1.6.6

Screenshots

FrameArabica turns a corner of your desktop into a real picture frame. Your photos are sitting in a folder where nobody ever sees them - point FrameArabica at that folder and they start showing up while you work, one at a time, quietly changing on their own.

No account, no upload, no library to import. It reads the folder you choose, straight from your Mac, and nothing ever leaves it.

What it does

  1. Sits on your desktop, not on top of your work - put a frame on the wallpaper layer and it stays behind every window, on every Space, like part of the desk. Or float it above everything, or leave it as an ordinary window. Your choice, per frame.
  2. Looks like a frame, not a browser - four styles, from a bare rounded photo to a warm gallery mat, black, or wood. Slide the mat width and corner rounding until it looks right on your wallpaper.
  3. Changes on its own - every 3 seconds, every 15 minutes, or any interval you type. Go in order by filename or date, or shuffle for a surprise each time.
  4. Gentle transitions - a soft crossfade, a slide, or an instant cut. All of it runs on the graphics card, so a frame that changes every few seconds costs you nothing.
  5. Drag it by the picture - grab the photo itself to move the frame, drag an edge to resize, and it comes back exactly where you left it next time you log in.
  6. Controls stay out of the way - the photo is the whole surface. Move your mouse over the frame and back, pause, skip and the file name fade in; move away and they are gone again.
  7. Notices new photos by itself - drop pictures into the folder while the frame is running and they join the rotation. Delete some and it carries on without missing a beat.
  8. Hang as many as you like - one frame for the family, one for the trip, one for work. Each has its own folder, timing and style.
  9. Reads what your camera and phone actually produce - JPEG, PNG, HEIC, WebP, GIF, TIFF and BMP, rotated the right way up, with huge photos scaled down so a folder of thousands stays light.
FrameArabica

How it works

Open FrameArabica and choose a folder of photos. A frame appears on your desktop straight away, already cycling. Drag it where you want it, pull a corner to size it, and pick the mat and timing that suit the picture.

That is the setup. Close the FrameArabica window and the frame stays on your desktop, doing its job - the settings window is only there when you want to change something.

Perfect for

  1. Anyone with years of photos they never actually look at
  2. Parents and grandparents who want the family on screen all day
  3. Photographers keeping an eye on a shoot folder while they edit
  4. Designers and artists who want a mood board where they can see it
  5. Anyone who would rather look at somewhere they have been than at a static wallpaper
