MailCafe is a calm desktop mail client that connects to the mailbox you already have over plain IMAP - no account to create, no inbox to migrate, no ads sitting between you and your mail.
It reads like Mail should: your mailboxes on the left, the message list beside them, and whatever you are reading filling the rest. Everything it has synced stays on your machine, so the list is on screen before the network is touched.
Highlights
- Works with the mail you already have - any IMAP account, and it finds the servers for you. Big providers are built in; everything else is looked up through autoconfig, the same directory Thunderbird uses. Only the domain is sent, never your address.
- Passwords live in the system keychain - Keychain on macOS, Credential Manager on Windows. Never in a config file, never in the app's database.
- Remote images blocked by default - message HTML renders sandboxed, with scripts off and remote images refused, so a tracking pixel cannot report that you opened anything.

How it works
Add an account with your email address and an app password - the kind you generate in your provider's security settings, which is what any mail app with two-factor authentication turned on needs. MailCafe verifies the login against the server before it saves anything, so a typo cannot leave a dead mailbox behind.
From there it pulls your recent mail and keeps checking once a minute. Opening a message marks it read on the server; reply, archive and delete all act on the real mailbox, so whatever you do here is what your phone sees. Cached mail lives in ~/Library/Application Support/cafe.getapps.mailcafe/ and passwords live in the system keychain, never alongside it.
