Fresh Brews: RistrettoFit, CheckersCafe, and Portfocino Join the Menu

Three new drinks landed on the menu with almost no announcement, and this batch spans the whole cafe: a fitness app that does the calorie math for you, a proper checkers board for the desktop, and a net worth tracker that puts your entire financial picture in one place. All three are included in the subscription, and all three run entirely on your own machine.

The cafe is at 117 apps now, and the counter keeps climbing while the waitlist stays empty.

RistrettoFit: the day's numbers, worked out for you

RistrettoFit works out exactly how many calories you should eat today, shows you what to eat to hit it, and gives you a fifteen-minute workout you can do in the living room. No gym, no equipment, no guessing.

The target is built from your body, not a chart. Tell it your height, weight, age and how active you are, and it calculates what you burn in a day and what you should eat to reach your goal by the date you picked. Ask for something unsafe, like ten kilos in a month, and it says so, slows the plan to a pace that keeps your muscle, and never lets the target drop below a level you can actually live on.

The day is laid out in three rings, one glance: calories in, calories burned and water, filling as you log, so you always know how much room is left before you open the fridge. Meals come pre-portioned to land on your calorie and protein numbers, and one click swaps the whole day for a vegetarian or high-protein version.

The workouts are real HIIT sessions with a proper interval timer: six of them, from a gentle four-move starter to classic Tabata and an all-out sprint ladder. A big countdown, the move you're on, the move that's next, a form cue for every exercise, and a beep so you never have to look. Finish a session and the burn is logged automatically, scaled to your bodyweight; stop early and it only counts the minutes you actually did.

Then there's the part that keeps you going: a 3D figure built from your own height, weight and body fat, with a slider that morphs it from where you are now to where the plan ends. Weigh in and the whole plan moves with you, one number updating your calories, your macros, your water and the figure on screen.

Everything stays on your own computer. No account, no sync, no analytics; your weight and what you ate never leave the machine, and one button erases the lot. RistrettoFit joins Americano, the shelf for apps that grow you: typing, languages, habits, posture, and now the body itself.

CheckersCafe: the games counter gets a fourth board

CheckersCafe is checkers the way it should feel on a desktop: a real green-and-buff board, pieces that slide and knock, and an opponent that actually thinks. Pick a difficulty, click a piece, and the game is on.

The five difficulty levels genuinely differ. Rookie is blind to danger and gives pieces away the way a beginner does; Master searches deep and counts every exchange out to the end before committing. Each level was measured against the one below it over twenty-four full games, and every rung won its series.

You get two games in one. The classic 8x8 board with twelve pieces a side, or 10x10 international draughts where men take backwards, kings fly the length of a diagonal, and you must always take the longest chain available. Captures are compulsory and the app makes that easy: every piece that can take is offered, the landing squares are marked, the pieces it would remove are ringed, and a multi-jump plays out one hop at a time.

The 3D board is a real slab you can orbit, zoom and tilt, with moulded pieces that arc over the ones they take and cast proper shadows. The flat view is there when you want speed and precision. Hot-seat mode hands the keyboard back and forth, take-back returns your move and the computer's reply together, and a hint from the strongest level turns a hard position into a lesson instead of a loss. Every move is written in the numbered-square notation the game has always used, and your wins, draws and losses are tallied per difficulty.

CheckersCafe joins ChessCafe, ChineseChess and GomokuCafe on the Affogato shelf, which has quietly become the games counter of the cafe. Four board games now, all offline, all included.

Portfocino: your whole net worth in one ring

Portfocino starts with a question most people can't answer: what are you actually worth? Most of us can name our salary and our mortgage, then guess at everything else, the flat, the pension, the shares, the money a friend still owes. Portfocino puts all of it in one picture: a single ring with your net worth in the middle, every asset class a slice you can hover or click.

Twenty kinds of wealth, not five. Cash, term deposits, shares, funds, bonds, crypto, property, gold, commodities, pensions, startup equity, art, vehicles, loans you've made and policies you hold, with mortgages, loans and cards subtracted to give a true net figure. Property gets a proper form: address, floor area, purchase price, current valuation, ownership share, title number, tenant, rent, annual costs and the mortgage tied to it. Currencies mix freely, and when a rate is missing Portfocino says so and leaves that holding out rather than quietly pretending a euro is a dollar.

Your portfolio is one file on your own disk. Put a password on it and every holding, figure and photo inside is encrypted; without that password the file gives up nothing but its own name, and no one, including us, can reset it. Keep several portfolios, yours, the family's, the business, each in its own window with its own file. Attach a photo of the flat or the deed to the holding it belongs to, and the record never gets separated from the proof.
