Fresh Brews: MokaStudio, SiteWrap, and Four More Join the Menu

Six apps joined the menu since the last Fresh Brews, and one of them has been a long time coming. MokaStudio, the video editor we first teased at the start of July, finally shipped. It's joined by SiteWrap, PianoTrainer, LearnJapanese, FileSearch, and PrivateMedia, which graduated from the waitlist.

MokaStudio: the video editor is finally here

MokaStudio is a full editor that lives on your Mac. You get a real multi-track timeline where video, audio, text, and images stack together, with trim, split, ripple-delete, and snap edits. Titles come from a proper font library. Effects, masks, and gradients preview live rather than after a render. Keyframes move, scale, or fade anything over time. Subtitles and stickers are built in, and export covers MP4 (H.264 or H.265), MOV (ProRes), and WebM (VP9).

There's no account, no cloud project, and nothing gets uploaded. Your footage stays in the folder you left it in, and the finished file lands wherever you point the save dialog. If you've been cutting clips with a one-track trimmer and waiting on someone else's render queue, this is the upgrade.

SiteWrap: the sites you live in become apps

SiteWrap turns the websites you check forty times a day into windows of their own. Paste an address, hit Export, and you get a finished application with the site's own icon, ready to launch from the Dock or Spotlight. Each site keeps its cookies in a jar of its own, so work mail and personal mail can both stay signed in without logging each other out. Known advertising and tracking servers are dropped before they load, links that leave the site open in your normal browser, and you can drop in a few lines of CSS to hide a banner or widen a column.

PianoTrainer and LearnJapanese: the practice shelf

PianoTrainer turns the MIDI keyboard already sitting on your desk into a practice partner. It shows a scale or chord, listens to what you actually play, and only moves on when your fingers get it right. Scales, chords, sevenths, and fifths cycle through all twelve keys, there's a circle-of-fifths quiz for the theory, and an on-screen keyboard covers the days the real one isn't plugged in. The grand piano sound is built in, so practice doesn't stop when the Wi-Fi does.

LearnJapanese teaches you to read, write, and say all 92 Hiragana and Katakana characters, one at a time. Every character has a native recording, a stroke-order animation, and a real Japanese word that uses it. There's a chart view, a multiple-choice quiz that tracks your best score per alphabet, and keyboard shortcuts for everything. It's a quiet single-window app with no streaks to keep alive.

FileSearch and PrivateMedia: the data row grows

FileSearch finds a file by name the moment you start typing. It reads the search index your computer already builds and keeps up to date, so there's no indexing wizard, no first-run scan, and no database of its own parked on your drive. Point it at an external drive or network share and it reads that folder directly, then tells you that's what it did. Results come back in under a second, with filters for documents, images, video, audio, code, and archives.

PrivateMedia is a password-locked vault for the photos and videos you'd rather not have sitting in a cloud album. Everything is encrypted on your disk before it touches the filesystem, the app locks itself when you walk away, and a locked vault is just a folder of unreadable files. It graduated from the waitlist, so the Frappe data row gets another tool that keeps your files where you can see them.

Two small rearrangements

The Tiny trio, TinyImage, TinyVideo, and TinyPDF, now sits together in Cold Brew, so all the shrink-and-compress tools live in one place. LatteSEO moved to Frappe to keep company with the data tools, and StretchSteam crossed over to Americano, where the practice-and-growth apps hang out.
